Glen grew up in Connecticut and spent his summers sailing every moment he could.  He attended College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine and graduated in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Ecology, with a focus in the biological sciences. Since getting his Master of Science degree in Zoology (with a focus on ornithology and statistics) from the University of Maine in 2000, he has served as the managing editor for two regional natural history journals (The Northeastern Naturalist and The Southeastern Naturalist), been appointed external graduate faculty at The University of Maine and served on 3 graduate student committees, and been hired as the project coordinator for the Maine Bird Atlas.  He founded Maine Natural History Observatory in 2003.
